PEETZ is proud to report that two of its Artist Series hand-carved fishing reels raised a combined $12,000 for salmon enhancement at the annual Duncanby Lodge “Fundraising Fishing Trip’, held last weekend, June 10 – 13, 2017.
As part of the three-day event, a charity auction is held by Duncanby to raise funds to help support salmon conservation efforts in the area. PEETZ and Jason Henry Hunt together donated reel “#1” of six “Artist Proofs” from its 2017 limited edition Artist Series fishing reels – carved and signed by the artist. This reel sold for an outstanding $5000. Sid Keay, owner of Duncanby Lodge, then also donated his personal “#1” reel for Duncanby’s own custom limited edition PEETZ Artist Series reels and this reel sold for $7000!
“The Fundraising Fishing Trip is an annual event that helps support salmon conservation and habitat rehabilitation while celebrating the opening of the season for our lodge,” said Sid Keay, owner of Duncanby Lodge. “This year we were again joined by a good friend, the ‘man in motion’ Rick Hansen to help raise funds and awareness for salmon conservation, with 100% of the trip price ($3950 per person) and all funds raised by auction going directly to the Pacific Salmon Foundation. The entire event was an outstanding success.”

About the PEETZ Artist Series Program
The Artist Series program is an initiative by PEETZ Outdoors to create limited edition, handcrafted/hand-carved PEETZ reels that appeal to West Coast art collectors, PEETZ reel collectors and anglers worldwide – while at the same time raising funds and awareness for salmon conservation and habitation restoration.
Since 2015, PEETZ has been collaborating with Kwagiulth master carver and artist, Jason Henry Hunt to create indigenous art using PEETZ mahogany and brass fishing reels as the medium. Each reel is hand-carved using traditional tools, numbered and signed by the artist. They represent an exciting, authentic representation of West Coast Canadiana and have sold throughout North America and into Europe. A PEETZ Artist Series reel even was selected by the Monarchy League of Canada as a gift to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during their last visit to British Columbia and is now included in the Royal Collection at Kensington Palace.
Each year, PEETZ and Jason Henry Hunt also create six special “Artist Proof” versions of the reels that are reserved for charity auctions. Through charity partners such as the Pacific Salmon Foundation, Nature Trust, Ducks Unlimited, Stuart Island Salmon Enhancement, Duncanby Fishing Lodge and the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, the sale of these reels have raised up to $6000 each for salmon conservation and habitat rehabilitation.
