August 5th, 2017 | Stuart Island, British Columbia
For 15 years, the Gillard Pass Fisheries Association has been hosting their Stuart Island Salmon Enhancement BBQ & Auction. On August 5th, 300-350 people will arrive on the often-quiet Stuart Island to eat, drink, enjoy live music, and attend both silent and live auctions with the proceeds supporting Vancouver Island salmon conservation efforts.
For many, this auction is an event they look forward to every year. It’s been going on for quite some time now and the list of contributors never ceases to grow. “PEETZ is proud to report it has been contributing for three years now – this year dedicating #3 out of 6 Artist Proof hand carved reels by Jason Henry Hunt,” states Marc Hoelscher, owner of PEETZ Outdoors. “We are pleased to report these reels have raised up to $5,000 each at auction for GPFA’s salmon enhancement efforts”.
All catering is donated by local lodges. The event grounds are provided free of charge. A live local band, The Circus, is playing at no cost. All staff are volunteers. Ultimately, event costs are very low, and nearly all funds raised go directly to charity.
Auction tickets are $40 and include:
- Access to the live and silent auctions
- A buffet BBQ dinner
- Appetizers and dessert
- A spectacular evening in a gorgeous location listening to live music
There also will be bar service.
Stuart Island is relatively remote, and getting there isn’t quite so conventional. For those with water transportation, moorage is available (and reservations are recommended). For everyone else, a stunning water taxi ride will take you from Campbell River to Stuart Island and back for $75. All water taxi proceeds go towards the auction fundraiser.
Tickets are available day-of at the event. For more information, contact Rupert Gale at 250.287.0845 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
